Buy the right machine the first time

Computer Purchase Recommendations

Independent help choosing a computer, laptop, or tablet that matches what you actually do — no commission, no upselling.

Retail advice is shaped by what a store needs to move this quarter, and spec sheets are written to obscure the parts that matter. Tell me what you do with the machine and what you want to spend, and you get specific recommendations with the reasoning attached — including when the honest answer is that your current computer just needs an upgrade.

What is included

  • A short conversation about your workload, software, and budget
  • Specific models and configurations to consider, and what to avoid
  • Plain explanation of the specs that will actually affect you
  • Guidance on where to buy, and on refurbished and business-line options
  • A note on whether upgrading what you own would be the better spend
  • Optional setup, migration, and data transfer once it arrives

This is probably what you need if…

  • Not knowing which of twenty similar laptops to pick
  • Buying for study, work, or a specific application
  • Kitting out staff with consistent, supportable hardware
  • Wanting to be sure you are not overpaying for specs you will never use

Common questions

Do you earn commission on what you recommend?

No. I do not take referral fees from retailers or manufacturers, which is the whole point of asking someone independent.

Are refurbished machines worth considering?

Often yes, particularly ex-business models, which tend to be better built than consumer equivalents at the same price. I will tell you what to check and which sources are reasonable.

Can you set it up once it arrives?

Yes — setup, updates, and moving your files and applications across from the old machine can all be handled.
